Suffolk’s Priority Fly Species
Key
Listed as a conservation priority in Suffolk’s Biodiversity Action Plan.
Closely associated with Suffolk’s landscape and natural identity.
Identified as a key priority for recovery under Suffolk’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Has a Species of the Month article attached.
Flies (Diptera) remain one of the less thoroughly surveyed insect orders in Suffolk, with relatively few sites having received focused recording effort. Hoverflies (Syrphidae) are a notable exception, being significantly better recorded than other families – likely reflecting their accessibility to non-specialist recorders and the availability of good identification resources.
Further advice on recording and identification can be found on the Dipterists Forum, the Hoverfly Recording Scheme, and our own Species Identification Guides page, which is well worth a look.
