Noctule Nyctalus noctula
One of Britain’s largest bats, typically the first to emerge at dusk, foraging high above the tree canopy with powerful, direct flight. Golden-brown fur; short, leathery ears with a distinctive mushroom-shaped tragus; long, narrow wings suited to fast flight in open airspace. Strongly associated with mature woodland and parkland trees, in the cavities of which it roosts throughout the year. Image: © Ján Svetlík, iNaturalist.
